Landfill and waste treatment conference a melting pot of ideas and knowledge

19 October 2023

The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management (UWM), Alderman Grant Twigg, was at the University of Cape Town Breakwater Lodge conference centre yesterday, 18 October, to open the 2023 Landfill and Waste Treatment Interest Group (LaWTIG) Conference and exhibition.

The event brings together the landfill and alternative waste treatment industries to exchange knowledge and ideas.

This year's event also focussed on the impact of load-shedding on alternative waste treatment, and innovative solutions to this challenge.

'The City of Cape Town intends to move boldly towards more sustainable waste management in coming years and is currently in the process of strategic review that will pave the way for implementing new technologies and processes that can change our relationship with waste.

'It is important that we maintain a constructive dialogue with industry roleplayers to ensure our strategic development takes the latest innovations around alternative waste treatment into account.

'I would like to express my gratitude to all the participants, experts, and speakers who are participating in the event. Your knowledge, expertise, and dedication are instrumental to the transformation of waste management in Cape Town and beyond,' said Alderman Twigg.
